Chechen State University

Chechen State University dates back to 7 February 1938 when Grozny Teacher Training Institute was founded with a two-year study period. The Institute was reorganized into Chechen-Ingush State University on 9 March 1971 and the new place received the name of Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy. On 28 February 1995, Chechen-Ingush State University named after Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy was renamed into Chechen State University. Later in 2011 the University transformed into the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education “Chechen State University”.

Currently around 15000 full-time and part-time students are receiving education at the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education “Chechen State University” and 10 Faculties and four Institutes lead the learning process.

The Centre of Collective Use at the University serves as a launch pad for the staff and students to conduct research in priority development areas of science and technology as well as providing services to external organizations and individuals on a commercial basis.

Furthermore, Chechen State University boasts infrastructure for generating growth points for small innovation businesses and developing new technological businesses. The key link of the University’s innovation cluster is represented by the Technopark, whose main task is to provide support and preparation for independent functioning to small and medium innovation enterprises, commercial acquisition of scientific knowledge, innovations, know-hows and high-end technology and transferring them to the science and technology production market.

Our team works hard to create an environment where students can not only gain quality education but also develop themselves personally. A strong focus is put on fostering patriotism, pastoral care, physical activity, leisure and recreation. Student life at our University is filled with exciting events full of creativity and scientific inquiry.

Third year in a row our University wins in the “Development programmes of student communities” competition commissioned by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. As part of the Programme, the University successfully realised a number of projects and opened new facilities: Centre of International and Youth Projects, School of Student Leadership, Recording Studio, Healthy Lifestyle Centre and Student Evaluation Commission “For Quality Education”.

For those keen on sports there are 14 sport societies, a student sports club, and a swimming pool.

A brand new student campus is currently under construction.

Special attention is paid to expanding our partnership links with universities and other institutions. Chechen State University is actively cooperating with Moscow Physics and Technology Institute (MPhTI), Moscow State Mechanical Engineering University (MSMEU), Rostov State Economics University, Pskov State University, Mari State University.

However, our University has established cooperation links not only with leading universities within Russia but far across its borders too. The University is a member of the Association of Azerbaijani-Russian Universities, collaborates with Science Academy of Georgia and Tbilissi State University, German universities of Vechta, Rostock and Neubrandenburg.

Thanks to the Scholarship Programme of Head of the Chechen Republic for training young specialists abroad, students of the Republic’s universities had an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience at best universities of Great Britain and Germany. Graduates of the Programme are now successfully employed at Chechen State University bringing fresh perspectives and new skills to the teaching process.
